Captain Gus Lancaster PA.
I would have agreed up to about 5 yrs ago that Capt. Gus was awesome.... but have you eaten there lately??? It is a hole. the service is bad ,,,, they they are nasty nasty nasty.... only one employee that serves ole captain gus well. To me a great steak sandwich comes with good quality and caring people preparing the food. If attitudes are nasty so is the food.... sour stomach here /
for years I craved their cheese steaks but i am not sure what the change is but know what change is comming if they dont get their act together
Captain Gus's Cheese Steaks. I have been doing for more years than I care to remember. I have lived in Lancaster for 75 years and seen Steak Shops come and go. Is Capt. Gus's the best any where? I don't know I have only been to Europe, Asia and some 25 U. S. states and haven't found any any better. The are by and far the best within a 25-30 mile of center city lancaster. And by the way Rick they do everything out in the open....you have no idea what is happening to your food back in the kitchen of most resturants.
Worst food in Lancaster. I went to Captain Gus's Steak Shop last week, the cook took my order, then took my money. Then without washing her hands she was handling the rolls and meat. This was by far the bigest turn off i have had in any food shop in a long time. I won't go back.
ok. Whoever claimed that they had better cheesesteaks than Philly, obviously isn't from Philly. Their cheesesteaks were ok but overly priced and small in comparison to a real cheesesteak. Can't say that I will eat there again.
Best Cheesesteaks ANYWHERE!.
Okay folks, this is THE place for awesome Cheesesteaks. Forget all those places in Philly, because this beats them all. Capt.Gus's may not be as big, but they are a whole lot tastier and cheaper. My favorite way to order them is to ask for a "Large cheesesteak w/extra cheese, pre-melted, and light sauce".
They use real cheese (not "Whiz") so it's a little better if you ask them to "pre-melt" the cheese. I ask for "light sauce" because the meat is nicely seasoned and I don't want to cover it up with too much tomato sauce. Sauteed onions are included (as it should be), so if you don't want them, you'll have to let them know.
The shop is a tiny place that is not in a particularly nice area but you'll never have a problem. Gus is an old Greek fisherman that's been there almost 40 years, so the shop (which has fishing poles on the ceiling and newpaper clippings on the walls) doesn't look all that nice, but they always score very high on the restaurant inspections, so you know they do a good job of making sure you get good food.
Every chance we get to introduce someone to a Captain Gus Cheesesteak, my wife & I will do it!
Love ya Gus!
